Success takes many forms, and at Causeway, we strive to make the journey a little easier by connecting organisations and businesses across the Irish Sea. Our annual Causeway Awards are a platform to celebrate these diverse achievements, providing businesses the opportunity to showcase their hard work and define what success means to them.
This was certainly true for Causeway members Business Fives, who were crowned winners of the Health & Wellbeing Award at the 2024 Causeway Business Awards.
Business Fives organises corporate charity football events across the UK, Ireland, and beyond, allowing professionals to take a break from the office, focus on well-being, and connect with others—all while raising funds for their chosen charities.
In this Q&A, Business Fives shares their journey, achievements, and the value of being a Causeway member, as well as what it means to be recognised with a Causeway Award.
Congratulations on winning a Causeway Award! What does this recognition mean to you?
We were delighted to receive the Health & Wellbeing Award at the 2024 Causeway Business Awards. This recognition celebrates our dedication to promoting workplace wellness and our commitment to strengthening meaningful connections between businesses in Scotland and Ireland.
What makes this achievement even more special is that it comes at a time when Business Fives has now raised over £1,000,000 for charity. Reaching this milestone is a testament to the unwavering support of our participants and partners, and we’re proud to celebrate it alongside this award.
How has networking through Causeway influenced your business?
Our founder, John McClarey, has been involved with Causeway since its launch in 2016, the same year as Business Fives! Over the years, he has built a fantastic network of like-minded professionals passionate about business growth between Scotland and Ireland. John has even had the privilege of chairing the Business of Sport event twice, connecting with key figures such as Ministers and Irish sporting legends like Packie Bonner.
The Causeway Business Awards are as much about connection as celebration. The event brought together an inspiring mix of professionals and organisations, and we were proud to stand alongside such an exceptional group of finalists.
Through Causeway, we’ve forged relationships with like-minded businesses across Scotland and Ireland. These connections have opened doors to collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge sharing, all of which help us further our mission to promote health and well-being in workplaces.
Can you share more about your journey to winning this award?

The journey to this award began long before the ceremony. The nomination process gave us a chance to reflect on our progress over the past year, celebrating our achievements and identifying areas for growth.
