The Killybegs Marine Cluster was established on 1st February 2021 and is one of twelve clusters on the Island which is part of Enterprise Ireland's National Clustering programme. The Cluster is currently 100% funded under the Regional Technology Clustering Fund (RTCF) and is the only one dedicated blue economy focused cluster in Ireland.
The Killybegs Marine Cluster have four defined strategic pillars:
1. Internationalisation, Scale & Competitiveness
2. Foster Skills & Talent
3. Research, Development & Innovation
4. Development of the ecosystem
The Killybegs Marine Cluster currently have 20 member companies across several blue economy industries, including, but not limited to commercial fishing (base industry), fish processing, marine engineering, aquaculture, renewable energies, offshore marine services, and marine tourism. The work of the Killybegs Marine Cluster and learnings gathered over the recent years, we can now distil our blue economy into three areas:
1. Sustainable Proteins - Pelagic, Aquaculture, Demerol, Shellfish, Algae etc.
2. Renewable Energy - Floating Offshore Wind (FOW), Fixed Bottom Installations, Green Hydrogen etc.
